So you may be wondering why I named my blog Chasing My Arrow, and today I am going to tell you the meaning behind the name!
If you know me in person, you may have noticed I have a sort of obsession with arrows. I love decorations with arrows (Hobby Lobby is a dangerous place for me folks) and when I was in the one spot section at Target I got kitchen towels with arrows on them and a mason jar with arrows on the lid. Did I need these things? I also have another sign hanging on my wall with arrows and I necklace that I got from a flea market. The other day I saw a bangle with an arrow and almost impulsively bought it! Don’t worry I controlled myself. No, certainly not. I live in a dorm so I don’t even have a kitchen! I developed this obsession right before arrows become trendy, which is really unfortunate because every time I see an arrow I want to buy it and I just do not have that much (or any) extra cash.
Where did this obsession start?
One day I heard the song Follow Your Arrow by Kacey Musgraves. I fell in love with this song immediately. First it’s an awesome message. The most important line of the song is “Follow your arrow wherever it points.” I love that! It became my mantra. I love the idea of going wherever life directs you and trying to let go and let go of control. I love it so much that my friend painted a sign for me with the saying and developed the aforementioned arrow obsession. The whole point of the song is basically that no matter what you do people are going to judge you for it, so you may as well do what makes you happy.
To me, the “arrow” isn’t just life, but it is God. I will follow God where he leads me. I want to do His will for me.
The Other Aspect of the Song
There is another reason why I was so drawn to the song, Follow Your Arrow. She mentions “Kiss lots of boys / Or kiss lots of girls/ If that’s something you’re into” and that was so cool to me because I’ve never heard a country song that accepts and even promotes LGBT people.
The Final Decision
I finally chose Chasing My Arrow as my name for several reasons:
1. I do not want to run into legal trouble
2. The domain followyourarrow is actually already taken by another hosting company and I did not want to pay even more for it
3. I don’t want to just follow my arrow, that seems so passive. I want to chase and run after my arrow!
Overall the song “Follow Your Arrow” and the name Chasing My Arrow really does sum up what I want my blog to be about. I want my blog to be for college students and for people in the twenties trying to figure out life. I want it to be for the people who are trying to figure out where their arrow is pointing. I also want to be for both the people who aren’t afraid to chase after their arrows or maybe they are and need some encouragement. I want to be that encouragement! I want my blog to be a place where LGBT people feel comfortable and accepted, especially those LGBT people who also follow God and maybe don’t find the acceptance to follow God. I will accept you, I will encourage you, and I will help every one of my readers in any way that I can
So keep Chasing Your Arrows!
