Today is my first post of a new series that spotlights other college bloggers! I wanted to give my readers a chance to see what blogs I enjoy reading. It also gives me a chance to get to know them better! Today I want you to meet Kayla from Kayla Blogs. Kayla is a college blogger in my home state, Pennsylvania. She is also one of the first blogs I followed. I love her Music Monday series as well as her book lists! Keep reading to learn more about Kayla.
First, please tell the readers a little bit about yourself.
My name is Kayla and I’m a college lifestyle blogger over at kaylablogs.com. I’m a senior at Temple University studying to become a speech-language pathologist. I love to read (and blog about it often!), spend time with my family and boyfriend, travel to new places, and I can never say no to a brunch outing!
When did you start blogging and why did it interest you?
I first started blogging in the summer of 2014. I was browsing Pinterest and found some really great blogs and thought, hey, this looks fun, I can do this! I first started blogging on Blogger and my site was called “Kayla on Campus”. I knew I wanted to blog for college students and share what I had learned with others!
Do you have any summer plans your excited for?
Yes! I am moving up to New York in a few weeks to start a job as a counselor at a summer day camp. I’ll be living with my boyfriend who is currently working up there and I’m excited to spend time with him as well.
What is your favorite part of summer?
My favorite part about summer is the warm weather, having free time to read and blog, and also getting to see my boyfriend more often!
What college do you go to? What do you love about your school? What do you wish you could change about it?
I go to Temple University in Philadelphia. I love that it’s a city school and I love the campus. Even though it’s in the city, there’s a lot of green space and I have a lot of favorite spots on campus. Something I wish I could change is the weather in Philly! It gets SO cold and windy in the winter it’s the worst. I would love to transplant Temple’s campus to someplace warm. It would make my semesters so much more enjoyable!
What is one of your first memories of college (good or bad)?
One of my first memories of college was the first time I went out with my roommate and her HS friends freshman year. We looked around for a party and didn’t find one and then we went to Wendy’s. It’s such a random memory but it was the first one I made with a group of friends that I still talk to and see around campus
What is one of your favorite memories of college?
I guess I’m blessed to have a lot of really great memories from college. I think my favorite ones were the little moments between me and my friends. I wish I would have taken them in more while they were happening. I’m talking about late-night chats with my roommate, library sessions with my friend Maddie, random club meetings with my friends from PSP and NSSLHA. I never really thought about them as they were happening, but looking back, those were the memories I’ll probably keep with me forever!
What is one thing you would not have been able to make it through college without?
I wouldn’t have been able to make it through college without my roommates, friends, and my boyfriend. Even though Ryan couldn’t be there all the time, he was always there giving me advice and calming me down when I bit off more than I could chew (which was often!)
How has blogging affected your college experience?
Having a blog has allowed me to crack open my creative side and has brought a really great balance to my life. I don’t think I would’ve had the same college experience if I didn’t have my blog. It brought me new blogger friends, and a creative outlet that has helped me get through each semester!
What is your favorite blog post you’ve written?
I loved this post about my planner recommendations: http://kaylablogs.com/2015/06/kayla-plans-how-to-find-your-perfect-html/
and this post where my boyfriend talks about how we met and how he asked me out: http://kaylablogs.com/2015/09/guys-behind-the-blog-august/
The planner post was something I wrote on a whim and it ended up being my most popular blog post that I’ve ever written. 50,000 views and counting! The post Ryan wrote is one of my favorites because I love reliving the memories every time I read it!
Can you give us any hints or sneak peaks for upcoming blog posts?
I can tell you that there will be a planner round up round 2 coming to the blog sometime in late June and I will also be starting to vlog this summer!
What is the most important thing you’ve learned at college that you won’t find in a textbook?
I learned that it is better to lean on each other than it is to compete with each other. I hope to take that with me through grad school and beyond.
Stay in touch with Kayla!
